Description
In May 2023, on the quiet east side of Ennis Lake, I spent several days returning to a downed tree where a great horned owl and her three owlets had made their home. I watched as the young ones tested their wings, each attempt brimming with both uncertainty and instinct. On this day, one brave owlet leapt from the shelter of a pine, only a few feet above the ground, and spread its wings in a determined glide. This image freezes that fleeting moment—a young life caught between the safety of the nest and the vastness of the sky.
